Sydney International Airport Parking

Useful information about airport parking at Sydney Airport

Sydney Airport handles over 44 million passengers per year, and is therefore the largest airport in Australia. The airport is located just 8 km from central Sydney, which is also the largest city in Australia, and is found in New South Wales, along the eastern coastline. Sydney Airport has the official code of SYD, and is well known as the Kingsford Smith Airport, in honour of Charles Kingsford Smith, a pioneering Australian aviator, or as the Mascot Airport, due to its location in this suburb. The airport is next to Botany Bay as well, with its runways jutting out over the water. All types of transport services are available to Sydney Airport, but passengers arriving in their own cars will find plenty of parking options, at a variety of parking lots that are used for different purposes at the airport.

Although all facilities of Sydney Airport are found on the same grounds, the airport is clearly divided into an international section and a domestic section. There are two terminals within walking distance at the domestic airport, and one terminal located quite far from the domestic area that is used for international arrivals and departures. Sydney Airport therefore provides a variety of parking options at both the domestic and international terminals. At the international terminal, there are valet parking options and a multi-storey car park for long and short term parking, while the domestic terminal offers remote long term parking area, a multi-storey car park and valet parking as well. At Sydney Airport, there are approximately 13,000 car parking spaces available, which include a number of spaces for disabled drivers, and bicycle racks are available at each terminal for passengers arriving by bicycle.

Parking at Sydney Airport Domestic Terminals

Motorists driving to Sydney Airport must only park their vehicles in areas which are clearly marked as public parking areas. No stopping is allowed on any of the roads leading up to the airport. However, passengers may be dropped off at the departure levels of the domestic terminals. In this area, cars may only stop for two minutes, and the driver must stay in the vehicle at all times. Cars may not, under any circumstance, be left unattended on the roadway outside the departure entrances. A few spaces for the drop-off of disabled passengers are provided in this area as well, where vehicles may stay for a maximum of five minutes. A third person is advised to accompany the disabled person should assistance be required, as the driver is not permitted to leave the vehicle. The collection of arriving passengers is best from the new area allocated across Keith Smith Avenue from Terminal 2, and across Shiers Avenue from Terminal 3. There are 51 spaces and drivers may leave their vehicles unattended. The first ten minutes are free.

The Domestic Multi-Storey Car Park is conveniently located between the two domestic terminals, within easy walking distance to all levels of the terminals. The self park facilities are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and passengers may park for up to three hours in the short stay spaces located nearby the terminal. All other spaces can be used for any period of parking. For disabled passengers, parking spaces are available in the car park immediately across from each domestic terminal, as well as on each floor of the car park, nearby the elevators. Vehicles displaying a valid ‘disability’ card may only use these spaces. Pronto! Valet services are available from level 3 of the Domestic Multi-Storey Car Park at Sydney Airport, and their hours of operation are from 05:00 to 23:00, Monday to Sunday. Alternatively, passengers can drop off their vehicles right by the Terminal 2 check-in counters, and use the valet parking services of Qantas or Virgin. The drop-off area for this valet service is on Departures Road, at the south end of the T2 Domestic Terminal.

For less expensive parking options at Sydney Airport, passengers can leave their vehicles in the Remote Long Term Car Park, found just off Ross Smith Avenue, when driving from either General Holmes Drive or Sir Reginald Ansett Drive. This car park is open all day throughout the week, and is serviced by the P-Bus, as it is located quite far from the terminals. The P-Bus is a complimentary service, available every ten to fifteen minutes, and the journey to the terminal is about five or six minutes. 48 spaces are available for disabled persons in the Remote Long Term Car Park, and the shuttle bus is accessible for persons in wheelchairs as well.

Parking at Sydney Airport International Terminal

At the international terminal, departing passengers may be dropped off at the curb-side of the departures level, but the same rules apply as for the domestic terminals. A designated pick-up area is available within the car park for the terminal, which allows fifteen minutes of free parking. Yellow signs indicate the way to this area.

The T1 Multi-Storey Car Park is located nearby the terminal, with a covered pedestrian foot bridge leading to the departures area, on level 2. This car park at Sydney Airport can be used for short or long term parking, and there are discounts available for longer stays. A dedicated long stay area can be found next to the exit gates. Within the parking lot, there are covered and uncovered parking spaces, and dedicated disability accessible zones on both the departure and arrival levels. There are thirteen spaces on level two and three, and seventeen spaces on level six. There are also disability accessible toilet facilities available on the ground floor and level 2 of the multi-storey car park. Pronto! Valet offers valet parking options at the international terminal from the car park, while Qantas Valet is available from immediately outside the check-in areas.

The parking facilities at Sydney Airport offer passengers a range of choices, and are considered to be safe and secure. Should assistance be required, passengers will find the Gold Ambassadors in their bright gold jackets at the terminal help desks, as well as throughout the terminals.
