Once you have arrived at Sydney Airport (SYD), collected your luggage from the baggage claim area and cleared customs you are ready to proceed to one of the many rental car companies located at Sydney airport. According to Australian laws both driver and passengers are required to wear a seat belt while the vehicle they are travelling in is moving.

All renters are required to provide a valid driver’s license and a credit card in their own name at the time of rental.

International drivers are usually required to provide a valid passport and some rental car companies also require either an international driver’s license or an official translation of the driver’s license if it is not originally in English and/or written in the Roman alphabet. An official translation may be an IDP, International Driving Permit, or a translation performed by a government body such as a consulate or embassy.
