NATIONAL Car Rental at Sydney Airport

Sydney Airport is located 8 km from the central area of the largest city in Australia, known as Sydney, and in the suburb of Mascot. The airport is also next to Botany Bay. Another popular name for Sydney Airport is the Kingsford Smith Airport, or even Mascot Airport, due to its location, and its official code is SYD. It is the busiest airport in Australia, with over 44 million passengers per year, and is an important hub for the airline companies of Qantas, Virgin Australia and Jetstar. Although transport of every kind is available directly from this large airport, many arriving passengers hire a car from one of the car rental companies at Sydney Airport, such as National. National, at Sydney Airport, is open from 06:00 to 23:00, which are also the operating hours of the airport. Although many large international airports around the world operate flights 24 hours a day, Sydney runs according to a strict curfew, as it is located so nearby a densely populated urban area. No aircraft landings or take-offs are permitted during the hours of 23:00 and 06:00, apart from a few special considerations. Hand controls, at Sydney Airport, should always be booked in advance, at least 24–48 hours prior to your arrival at the airport. The primary renter of the vehicle may also be a disabled person who is unable to drive. In this case, the disabled renter will appoint a designated driver to operate the vehicle, and this person’s driving license will be used for rental qualification purposes. In general, National’s primary renters are required to meet the minimum age requirement of 21 for the majority of car categories, and be able to show a valid drivers license which has been held in their country of residence for at least a year prior to the rental date. Younger drivers under the age of 25 will pay a higher rental rate, in the form of a young drivers fee, which is a small additional amount applicable to each day of rental, and each underage driver listed on the rental agreement, usually up until a maximum of ten rental days. Younger drivers may also not be permitted to hire from certain vehicle categories. Most national driving licenses are accepted by National, provided that they are printed in English, however, an International Driving Permit may be required for foreign renters from certain countries. Vehicles from National, at this rental location, can be hired directly from the rental counters, or in advance, from National’s website at www.nationalcar.com. It is often recommended to have an advanced reservation, especially at such a busy airport, and if you require a special type or size of vehicle. From National, customers will only receive late model vehicles, with low mileage, and which are reliable. They are also booked by car category, rather than by their specific makes and models, therefore customers will receive a vehicle similar to the example shown on National’s website, but not necessarily the exact make of vehicle. However, all rentals will be as similar as possible to the example in each car category, and National will do their best to accommodate a customer who would like a specific type of vehicle.

Smaller vehicles available at Sydney Airport include the Hyundai Getz in the Economy or Compact categories. Although this little car does not offer much room for luggage, it does have some nice features, such as anti-lock brakes, power steering, airbags and air conditioning. In the Economy category the vehicles will come with a manual transmission, while in the Compact category, passengers will drive an automatic vehicle. The majority of vehicles hired in Australia have an automatic transmission, as these are the types of vehicles that are generally preferred. Larger vehicles include the Skoda Octavia and Toyota Camry, and an estate vehicle is the Toyota Kluger 3.5. Although a one-way hire can be arranged from National, cars are usually not permitted to leave mainland Australia for the islands nearby, or to travel into Western Australia and the Northern Territory. However, a one way hire is very convenient for those who wish to return the vehicle to a rental location which is permitted by National if they are not planning to drive back to Sydney Airport.
